Gladiator Manica - Roman Gladiator Set
#blacksmith #blacksmithing #armour #gladiator
In this video, I design and construct a manica utilizing a combination bronze sheet metal and leather. A manica is a piece of armor that protects the gladiator's sword arm. Lightness and mobility are important design factors. As per usual, I deviate from historical accuracy in order to incorporate some cool sculptural aspects

This was a satisfying project because I started and finished it on the same day with a bit over 5 hours in total time spent. A phalanx of hoplites from Sparta, faces covered by their helms, marching silently toward you had to be very intimidating. Great panoply!
Excelente!!! Saludos
I am new here Sir but I like your work and your passion for your work.
Awesome! Worth the wait as always. The outfit is coming together nicely. I am Looking forward to your take on the Murmillo greave or greaves! You could probably make them interchangeable with your Greek sandal harness…
Truly inspiring. Now I'm off to make a simple version of this. No lion 😅 fine work
Aww too bad you fly was down the whole time. LOL Just trolling bro. no it wasn't.
A gladiator in front of a hobbit hole, now I've seen everything!
Another Epic work of art .
Don't worry thak it takes a lot of guys "about an hour to raise their initial bulge"
This was a cool video as I am new to your channel. Really liked the mannor in which you presented your work and thought process. On the lions head and mane, great detail and I have seen some with a serios curl at the top, especially that leading edge that seemed to get under the helmet. im sure ill have a deep dive your vids!
Nice work! One of these days I may have to have you make me some stuff!
Love it. Most awesome work Sir. 🙏🏼🔥⚒️🧙🏼
You don't need to get cut. Historically, they would have had the body fat as organic spaced armour over the vitals.
They should have casted you for a role in the movie :)
Very nice piece. I’m always amazed at what you can hammer out. I was a little surprised you opted to turn the Lion’s mane out (convex) instead it keeping it concave. Aesthetically, this would have mimicked how the mane falls on an actual lion’s head, and functionally it would have followed the natural curvature of the shoulder, which should minimize or eliminated interference with your helmet. A rounded surface for the shoulder guard should also better deflect the opponent’s weapon and minimize catch points. Unless by turning the mane out you were intending to provide a neck-guard for some portion of your neck? How would a neck-guard typically be accounted for in that if armor? With the helmet? With the shoulder guard? A separate piece , or not at all? I would be interested to hear your thoughts in the nerd-follow-up.
If youre wearing piecemeal armour you dont want weapons sliding off
Fantastic work as usual sir!
Love this channel. Thak, what is your accent, Canadian?
I think northeastern hobbit.😂
@@Handle35667 yeah canadian
That is insane ive been beggong my mom to make a strong plastic version which can fit my big head so i can be him for Halloween😂😂😂

YOu want Kamela to be the Vice she will be a a demon who up to her will Privatize the Jails and Create a new form of Criminal for just being opposite of the Demoncrates talking bad about them would land you in that jail and try to remove all of your money and wealth and your life!!!! Very interesting and informative video! Thanks for clarifying matters that I only had a vague understanding of.
Hello, would you make a replica of this for sale? I'm interested in this mask.
@@Fatoseculpadosoficial email me at info@thak.ca
Murmillo and Thracian (Thrax) were the gladiators that used that helmet, the Murmillo was just a more heavily armored version of the Thrax
Incredible!
This was awesome

XIPHOS = ΞΙΦΟΣ YOU PRONOUNCE "X" AS "Z".....THIS IS WRONG IN GREEK THE LETTER "Ξ" PRONOUNCE AS "K+S" TOGETHR
Single form = ΑΣΠΙΣ or ΑΣΠΙΔΑ = ASPIS or ASPIDA Plural form = ΑΣΠΙΔΕΣ = ASPIDES
too bad the lorica segmentata roman legionnery never have a chance to sword fight with the greek hoplite
the lorica segmentata didn't come about until the 1st century CE well into the early Roman Empire. That was well after the era of classical Greece and them being conquered by Rome.
@@kspfan001 that is why I said it is too bad
Helou strong guy.. Tuatahi Racing stile axe in normal size wait for you ❤

Xiphos in greek is pronounced 'K'seeh- Foss" with an opened o (almost like 'fah') <3 great channel! Keep it up man :)
I half-expected this to be about carbon taxes.
Purist here. As long as you're not claiming it's historically accurate (which you say right at the beginning that you're not), I don't see the problem. We have the examples we have, and there's not much more we can say. Taking inspiration from history to make your own work of wearable art is a time-honored tradition, and anyone that has a problem with that is probably not a very pleasant person to be around in the first place. We're pretty sure Achilles' Mycenaean-era armor didn't look like how the Classical Greeks depicted it on their pottery, but that wasn't the point; the point was to draw from their history (or myth, but then the two were hard to separate back then) and make good art. I think they'd enjoy your work. Also, anyone who can look me in the eye and say some rich Theban landowner wouldn't absolutely salivate over this helmet is kidding both me and themselves.

Absolutely the Greek Helmet .I love it so much .
Well done,great job 👍
Excellent Job!!! 👌🏼 Now when it comes to the name, the pronunciation is ‘x-e-foes’ / X (like fox - not Z like Xander) -> Xiphos P.S. I’m Greek so I think I’m qualified to make this comment 😂
Could you release video of making 1930s mask?❤
Clavicus vile mask repousse!
Getting ready to have a forge day with my grandson's cub scout pack and was looking for a simple activity that the boys and their dads could do in about an hour (including safety time talk). Not only a thing they will be able to take with them, but every cub has a hat and neckerchief that has to be hung up where they can find it every week.
